Adorable Annie doll giveaway
I have admired De’s dolls and patterns on etsy for quite some time. I was so thrilled when I found she is having a drawing to give away one of her precious dolls!

I’ve decided to join Judy at Patchwork Times for her weekly stash-busting reports. My main New Years’ resolution was not to purchase fabric or yarn unless I have a specific project in which to use it. So now, I want to use up what I have along the way, as well.
Here’s my breakdown for my first week, which is the 4th week of the year.
Fabric added this week: 8
Fabric added year to date: 8
Fabric used this week: 0
Fabric used year to date: 0
This is going to be great fun for me. I’m considering doing the same thing for my yarn, too.
I am a retailer for Storey Publishing. They publish tons and tons of books on self-sufficient living, farming, cooking, gardening, etc.
I have 6 copies each of the two books below for sale. Click on the title to see the full details on the Storey web site. Retail on them is $16.95 each. For the first 6 people that email me (link in upper right corner of blog) and say they want one (or one of each), I will sell them for $12.50 each with FREE SHIPPING within the United States.
I’d like to get these out of my house to make room for more! I plan to keep having offers on books from Storey on my blog on a regular basis, so keep an eye out!
Enjoy!
Gregory was released from the hospital Thursday. Only for us to come home to Felicity and myself getting sick. My niece flew in from the Houston, TX area on Friday. Mike got up this morning not feeling well.
It’s been a pretty crazy past few days. Everything will return to normal on Tuesday around here and I will do alot of catching up here on the blog, as well as on all the posts/forums/swaps I am hosting as well as participating in.
Thanks for all the well wishes for Gregory while he was in the hospital.
Sorry I’ve been MIA. Gregory’s health started going downhill this past weekend and he was admitted to the hospital Monday afternoon. Typical winter hospital stay for us, so don’t worry. He will be fine in a few days and we’ll be back home.
I’ll catch up on posts in a few days!
Everyone take care.

If you are following our first hatch of chicks, the CHICKS ARE HERE! Actually, one hatched on 12/28 and the other two on 12/29.
Click here for the first hatching post.
Two of the chicks I had to help out of their shell, rather, I had to hatch them. Their air cells were very large and when they pipped, it was way down in the middle of the egg, instead of around the top of the large end where they know how to pip then zip themselves out.
The first to pip, Tuff, pipped then for 12 hours was very active and very responsive to voice when I talked to her through the incubator. But, at about 12 hours, she stopped moving and trying to get out and was almost completely unresponsive anymore. She came right out after I broke away her shell and did fine.
The second to pip, Gabriel (was Gabby until we realized we’re pretty sure she’s a HE). At 10 hours he zipped himself right out! The zip line was right around the top of the large end of the egg, just as it should be.
The third to pip, Kota (short for Dakota), ended up in the same situation as Tuff. I finally realized what the problem was, though, because I noticed the pip hole so far down in the egg instead of close to the large end. So, after about 8 hours with her, I went ahead and broke away her shell. As soon as I got a large piece off, she stuck her leg out and grabbed my finger with her toes. She came out screaming and is still, by far, the loudest one of the trio.
Many people will disagree with me assisting the hatch of my two chicks. I would rather help them and they not make it than sit back and watch them die because I didn’t attempt to help.
All three are doing awesome! These chicks are Frizzle Cochin Bantams. Frizzle means that their feathers stick out, as in grow opposite of the way they should. These chicks all carry the frizzle gene, though it looks as Tuff is the only one with frizzled feathers. All three have their feathers growing in rapidly on their wings. I will be posting photos tomorrow or Thursday of current photos.
Here are photos of their births and shortly after:
